Assemblyman Jim Cooper appointed to victims memorial panel

Assemblyman Jim Cooper, D-Elk Grove, has been appointed by Speaker Toni Atkins to serve on the California Crime Victims’ Memorial Review Committee. The committee is tasked with overseeing the design, construction and maintenance of a memorial in Capitol Park to honor California residents who are victims of crime.

Cooper Appointed to California Crime Victims’ Memorial Review Committee

SACRAMENTO –Assemblymember Jim Cooper (D-Elk Grove) announced today that he was appointed by Speaker Toni Atkins to serve on the California Crime Victims’ Memorial Review Committee. The Committee is tasked with overseeing the design, construction and maintenance of a memorial in Capitol Park to honor California residents who are victims of crime.

“It is an honor to be appointed to this Committee,” said Assemblymember Cooper. “As a former Sacramento County Sheriff’s Captain, I have a first-hand understanding of what victims of crime and their families go through. I look forward to participating in construction of a memorial in their honor,” Cooper added.

SACRAMENTO – Today, Assemblymember Jim Cooper (D-Elk Grove) voted in support of SCR 3 which proclaims January 26th, 2015 as India Republic Day and honors the contributions of the state’s Asian Indian American community. Cooper also greeted Indian dignitaries and representatives from the Indian Association of Sacramento, K3 International and the Indus Valley American Chamber of Commerce during a special presentation in the Assembly Chambers.

“This day celebrates the start of the largest Democracy in the world,” said Assemblymember Cooper. “It is important that we recognize the contributions that people of all backgrounds had to the Indian Republic. My district has large Hindu, Sikh, and Muslim populations. Many of these groups formed the foundation to creating the Indian Republic,” Cooper added.

Assemblymember Jim Cooper Issues Statement on State Budget

Sacramento – Assemblymember Jim Cooper (D-Elk Grove), member of the Assembly Budget Committee and Budget Subcommittee No. 4 on State Administration, released the following statement on the State Budget:

“The Governor’s proposed $2,600 per student funding increase is great news for California’s kids. All students, no matter their socioeconomic status or their school district, deserve the best chance for a successful life and access to high quality education. Additionally, increasing workforce training and keeping college affordable are key as our economy continues to recover.

Cooper, Pan back Gov. Brown’s education funding push

Elk Grove’s representatives in the State Legislature said they support Gov. Jerry Brown’s continued push to increase funding for education.

Brown said on Jan. 5 during a combined inaugural and State of the State Address that schools will receive $65.7 billion, marking a 39 percent increase since he first took office four years ago.

Assemblymember Jim Cooper Issues Response to the Governor’s Inaugural Address

Sacramento – Assemblymember Jim Cooper (D-Elk Grove) released the following statement this morning following Governor Jerry Brown’s 2015 Inaugural Address to the Legislature:

“With our economy continuing to grow, I was pleased to hear the Governor’s commitment to rebuilding our education system through his proposal to increase education funding by 39 percent. I look forward to working with Governor Brown on ensuring that the Local Control Funding Formula accomplishes its goals, addressing the challenges of teacher recruitment and retention, and the implementation of California’s new Common Core standards. California has one of the lowest per pupil education funding rates in the nation and our kids deserve access to the best education. Their success is essential to the future prosperity of our state.

Assemblyman Jim Cooper of California’s 9th Assembly District has been appointed by Speaker Toni Atkins to serve as a member on five key policy committees and on the Joint Legislative Committee on Emergency Management.

“I’m confident that my work as a committee member on the Agriculture Committee and the Government Organization Committee will enable me to better serve my district,” Cooper said in a press release. “I’m also grateful that she has appointed me to the Privacy and Consumer Protection Committee so that I can use my experience and knowledge from my service as the Commander of the Sacramento Valley High-Tech Crime Task Force to safeguard and protect all Californians.”
