Keeping Up with Assemblymember Cooper - New Year Issue
The legislative session is once again under way at the State Capitol and we are beginning the second year of the 2017-2018 Legislative Session.
I am very proud of the work my colleagues and I accomplished in the first year of this legislative session and look forward to the year ahead. Last year, we passed meaningful legislation for hard-working families across California, including passing legislation to protect California’s undocumented immigrants and fixing California’s roads.
Additionally, several of my bills were signed by the Governor, including Assembly Bill (AB) 46 which will help close the wage gap and ensure women and minorities receive equal pay. Furthermore, the Governor also signed two bills; AB 615 and AB 630 that I authored to combat poor air quality in disadvantaged communities.
In the upcoming year, I will continue fighting for equal pay for women, funding education and after-school programs, and protecting the public through meaningful public safety measures that will strengthen our communities.

On the Tuesday before Thanksgiving, my office hosted our 3rd annual Thanksgiving Healthy Family Turkey Giveaway where we passed out over 2,500 free turkeys to families in South Sacramento. The annual event also included free flu shots and medical and dental screenings. The event was a huge success and would not have been possible without the support of the event’s sponsors.

It gives me great pleasure to present a $5,000 check from the Barona Band of Mission Indians to John Still Middle School. Barona’s generous donation will help purchase copies of “The Leader in Me” for each student at this Title-1 school in South Sac. This book will help students learn about leadership and how to become a positive influence on others, something that is vital for them to learn while in junior high. A huge thank you to the entire Barona Nation of the San Diego area for your unwavering generosity and commitment to California’s youth.
I had the pleasure of giving a legislative update to the Lodi Association of Wineries at their annual meeting at Klinker Brick winery. Thanks for the invite.
