Assemblymember Cooper’s Legislation Protects Public Employees

Thursday, May 10, 2018

(Sacramento) - Assemblymember Jim Cooper (D-Elk Grove) presented his Assembly Bill 2970, which increases privacy protections for employees attending orientation, to the State Assembly. “A recent study by the U.S. Bureau of Justice Statistics found that workplace violence is three times higher in the public sector than the private sector,” Assemblymember Cooper said. “Moreover, between 2002 and 2011, 56% of workplace violence was directed at law enforcement or security officers. Given these facts, it is imperative that we protect our new public employees attending orientation by only providing advance notice to the pertinent parties.” To see the rest of his speech, watch this Assembly Access video.
